RESUMO
MIACC Working Group 1 has been developing risk assessment methodologies to be used in Canada by municipalities and industry. The paper describes the techniques and products developed by the WG. The concept of risk, which encompasses probability and consequence of hazardous events as well as perceptions about such events, is first introduced. The concept of risk acceptability, along with the MIACC guidelines is discussed. The method of quantifying risk. given information on its probability and consequence components, is described. The MIACC products, which are intended for conducting screening level assessments regarding major industrial incidents, are pesented. Use of information on probability, consequence, and risk, or hazardous events in the context of process safety management, land use planning and emergency response, are discussed (AU)
